Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) presents a Baroque Conversations program of cello concertos showcasing the instrument’s versatility and rich tone, featuring Principal Cello Andrew Shulman, Thursday, November 2, 2017, 7:30 pm, at Zipper Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Shulman, who also hosts the evening, performs Vivaldi’s Cello Concerto No. 8, Leo’s Cello Concerto No. 3 and CPE Bach’s Cello Concerto in A Major. Joining him are LACO artists Concertmaster Margaret Batjer; Assistant Concertmaster Tereza Stanislav; Viola Rob Brophy; Cello Trevor Handy; Bass Geoffrey Osika; and Principal Keyboard Tisha Mabee, harpsichord.

Shulman, who has been hailed for his “always eloquent and passionate” (Los Angeles Times) playing, is the first British winner of the Piatigorsky Award and was bestowed with an Honorary RCM by the late Queen Mother. He has performed concertos with the Philharmonia, BBC Scottish, Utah and Singapore Symphonies and Los Angeles and Royal Liverpool Philharmonics, among others. Shulman has also been featured in recitals at Wigmore Hall, the Royal Palace, Stockholm and Buckingham Palace, London, and performances of Strauss’s Don Quixote with Rattle in London and Salonen at the Hollywood Bowl.

The enlightening five-concert Baroque Conversations series provides insight into the genesis of orchestral repertoire from early Baroque schools through the pre-classical period. Generously sponsored by Carol & Warner Henry, a Friend of LACO and the Ronus Foundation, Baroque Conversations continues during LACO's 50th anniversary 2017-18 season with four other programs on January 25, March 1, March 22 and April 26, 2018.
